Hit the breaks!

Hey there everyone, sorry it has now been over a month since the last blogging update. There has, of course, been weekly video logs on the main channel TimeAndACuppaTea, but I think its time for some intermit downtime between me and the people who read these blogs. So what's going on in the universe of Powers?
Quite a lot if I'm honest.
Though for me, it really doesn't feel like much, but the filming for episode two and the debut of our series Super Hero has slow crept up on me to the point where I have everything ready and next week we film it. Wow. There is a lot to do. Meanwhile, Jacob is on a break preparing for those all important GCSE's while I am left to continue to write and film as much as possible before he returns, getting ready for when he gets back.
Which is fine, because behind the scenes we do chat on the phone about what is cracking off and have recently set the plans in motion for the writing to commence on the fourth episode in the series. This one is one of my favourites so far, you'll see why sometime next year I'm sure. Plus that does mean that half of series 1 has currently been written!
I know the time goes so fast. Episode 1 is currently in post production with a few scenes that need to be shot and others that need to be reshot. Even so there has been about 14 minutes edited which are going to be released with the real episode, so it's getting there!
I am now the main editor for this project, which has left me to be very creative and I have enjoyed this massive learning curb I didn't know I could pull off half the things that I have.
Tomorrow is set to be a nice filming date, nothing is scripted but it's only a teaser trailer that will showcase whats to come and hopefully build your excitement. There is also a chance to get involved in the action with REWARDS!

Bad Blisters and Blood...

The first major filming block of Powers has come to an end and with all kinds of shinnanigans along the way it is safe to say it has been a bumpy yet satisfying road. Although we have already had to jump numerous hurdles, recasting, relocating and rearranging dates, we seem to have pull through in the end. Episode one still has quite a few amount of scenes to get "in the can" but thankfully, our hard work has paid off as the majority of the episode is edited and been sent for effects in post.
The final filming date for the first episode is to take place next week, but I'm here to reflect on my time shooting powers for this crazy week in february.
The best bots about this week have been being able to see my creations come to life and take on a role I created almost 2 years ago and have wanted to try for a good while. We got a lot of complicated sequences shot and despite the amount of doubt I had while writing the script it seems that with a little help from Dave Edwards, our SFX man, we will certainly have an interesting and entertaining outcome.
Not just this but the cast of people we have in the "pilot" episode have been outstanding and I think that this is really setting the standard for future episodes.
Episode 2 also began shooting and remained to the high quality and standard I hope that it would be. Powers has been a challenging product in the few months it has existed but this has certainly been worth everything we have done.
Of course things were going to go wrong, they always do. Numerous times plans have been dismantled and reassembled and we have had a few close shaves, having to recast twice already! Another thing is the day myself and Jacob Kay went to Buxton to get some scenes shot in the lovely Pooles Cavern only to find that this wasn't possible and we had to hike up 2 huge hills, through a big forest to find a location that actually fit the place we wanted.
I hadn't expected this and walking this amount in pointy shoes made for business meetings is bound to leave a mark, in the end I had 2 blisters, one on each heel, causing quite the amount of pain, not only this I managed to head butt one of our cast members during preparation for a fight scene which proved to give me a nice throbbing headache and finally, of all the mishaps we managed to cause a bit of a farce getting fake blood on the carpet, creating a terrible mess and atmosphere on set.
Despite these things, we have trudged on and I'm confident that one day all of our battles will be worth it!

Stay tuned for more information on the upcoming web-series: Powers.

The snow and the cast...

So last week our filming was canceled due to snow and now we have rearranged to do Sunday, Monday, Thursday and finally Sunday again. The problem we have been having now is the availability of cast. This has always been a problem and thankfully this episode is going to be the only one that is going to be like this, as from the end of the shooting I personally am going to print off the shooting scripts to episode 2 and 3 and work out a great plan of action.
Powers in script form has been the best project I have ever written and I'm very proud of it, the cast planned for future roles look stunning and they all fit the roles cast.
Promotional pictures may well be coming very soon, so keep your eyes peeled, but for now the plan of action is to finish episode 1 by the end of the half term, lets see if we can do it :D

Stay tuned, I'll keep on updating you lovely people and don't forget to like the facebook page:

What the heck is Powers?

This is the question everyone is probably asking at the minute, I mean no more Doctor Who and suddenly this new title is taking to the monitors! Some are outraged at the cancelation, others are just upset but unfortunately this just had to happen because we built the story arc around the companion. I know that people who follow us no will worry that we do the same to future projects, but I assure you that Doctor who was a lesson well learnt and taught both myself and Jacob what problems can arise, especially when devising a plot.
Now that my explanation is over, I'm going to begin to answer the question above, below are some facts about Powers...

  • Powers is a "Super hero drama" series
  • Planning for the idea began in October 2010 when Allan Rafferty came up with the idea of two teens who get the powers of their favourite comic book heroes
  • Since then it has evolved into a less cheesy storyline
  • Allan and Jacob have been working on the series since early 2011 and decided to wait until Doctor who was over...
  • Episode one and two have already been written
Apart from these facts I cant really explain much more just yet.
I promise this will be 10 times better than Doctor Who and certainly worth the hype, so until the next time, let the hype begin!
